Five years ago Krystal Kitahara, CEO of Yummi Karma found herself at a crossroads between her hometown, and her business. Despite efforts to remain compliant to local laws in every step of manufacturing her company’s line of CBD and THC infused products the city of Fresno, California made her feel less like a local business owner and more like someone with a target on their back. She recalls one particularly nerve racking phone call with her lawyer, “I remember seeing helicopters and wondering if this was it, were they here for me?’’
Today Krystal sits in her newly renovated offices surrounded by her colleagues and breathes a sigh of relief. Yummi Karma has come a long way since she decided to make the move to Costa Mesa, and last week the company became the first manufacturer in OC to obtain a state license. But this isn’t the time for a “victory lap”. Together with her business partner Alysia Sofios, Krystal plans on taking the fight for legal cannabis all the way to our Commander in Chief- Mr. Donald Trump.
Alysia believes that their efforts to operate in compliance to state and local laws will help to change the narrative on how we not only view a cannabis business owner but also the average cannabis user. “We would like to show him a different view of who is using this wonderful plant, most of our clientele are mothers, grandmothers, and people that don’t fit into the hollywood stereotype”
If these ladies have it their way you will be seeing their medicated lotions and tinctures in medicine cabinets and purses all over California. Who knows, maybe Donald will use some of their best selling “Plain Jane” lotion to fix his lizard skin. For now Yummi Karma and their line of skincare products aptly named High Gorgeous are available at dispensaries throughout Orange County and are easy to find by visiting YummiKarma.com or by following them on Instagram and Facebook.
