Monday Munchies: CannaOil Co. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Under the new proposed cannabis regulations edibles are likely going to be capped at 100mg of THC per package. That means we need to take advantage of the high dose products available to us now! One of the best higher dose products available in dispensaries is CannaOil Co’s 400mg Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Although it’s not an edible you can unwrap and immediately consume (I mean, I guess you could, but I don’t recommend it), it stands apart from others because you can make it into what ever you want.

Oil is needed to make an array of delectable goods like cookies, brownies, salad dressings, sauces, soups and beverages, which is why this product is one of our favorite edibles. I tested the oil (and my cooking skills) by making chocolate chip and blackberry pancakes—for dinner. I got the basic recipe from CannaOil Co’s website, where they have a few different recipes to choose from.

Although I followed the majority of the steps, I decided to make a few tweaks to the flapjack concoction:

  • 1 ¾ cups of hemp flour (Got to keep with the theme, you know?)
  • 2 Teaspoons of organic wildflower honey (I subbed the honey for 2 tablespoons of white sugar)
  • 2 Teaspoons of baking powder
  • ½ Teaspoon of baking soda
  • ¼ Teaspoon of salt
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2 cups of buttermilk
  • ¼ cup of non-medicated olive oil
  • 2 Teaspoons of Infused CannaOil Co.

(Note: Two teaspoons of the infused CannaOil comes out to 66mg of THC for the entire pancake mix (one teaspoon equates to 33 mg of THC according to their website). My pancake mix made 10 pancakes, so there’s only 6.6 mg of THC per pancake, which is a very low, manageable dose. But if you wanted to make them stronger (or lower the dose even more) you can adjust the amount of CannaOil. Just remember: There are 33 mg of THC per teaspoon.)

Mix the hemp flour, honey, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a mixing bowl. Then whisk in the egg, buttermilk and 2 tablespoons of the olive oil until you have a smooth batter. Butter the pan to make sure the pancakes don’t stick, and ladle ¼ cup of the pancake mixture into the pan. That’s when I added the chocolate chips and cut up blackberries. Be sure the flame is on low to medium-low. You’ll know the pancake is ready to flip when the side that’s up (the batter side) gets bubbly.

I don’t love syrup, so I substituted syrup with organic wildflower honey and spread it atop the pancake. But whether you use syrup or honey, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the outcome. By themselves the pancakes weren’t too sweet, and they had the perfect amount of fluff to them. I ate two, which means I consumed roughly 13.2 mg of THC. An hour and a half later, I was happily medicated and very smiley. I finished my last pancake at 8:30 pm and was ready for bed by 10:30– and I’m normally a night owl.

Edibles have a bad rep. But when you can make them yourself and you have a reliable THC barometer, they can be the best, especially ones that allow you to create what ever you food you want. In the spirit of Blue Oyster Cult, CannaOil Co. makes it easy to not fear the reefer.
