Jefferson’s Weekly Canna-Cocktail Corner: Liquid Television

Say “fruity pebble party” three times fast while hopping on one foot and covering your left eye (Photo: Jefferson Van Billiard)

It’s Saturday morning in 1992. A much younger me sits attentively, legs crossed, cereal bowl in hand, staring at whatever cartoons were on. It’s a simpler time, Tupac was alive and you could still get on an airplane without taking your shoes off. In memory of all the hours spent daydreaming while waiting for the milk to turn that familiar pale pink hue, I’ve created the “Liquid Television” to try and capture that wonderful feeling of an entire day of nothing ahead of you.

In order to achieve the flavor profile you will need the following:
(3) Cups of Aperol liquor
(1) 500mg LOL brand Rice Krispie bar
(1) Non-reactive container
(1) fine strainer or coffee filter

Combine the ingredients in the non-reactive container (ie: glass, ceramic, stainless steel or anything) and let sit for no more than 20 minutes. Keep a close eye on the cereal, once it starts to become mushy strain the liquid from the container using a fine mesh strain or coffee filter and set aside. Infusion should hold for at least a week. To lengthen shelf life, store in the refrigerator.

Liquid Television
1.0 oz Infused Aperol
1.0 oz Vodka or Gin
.50 Fresh squeezed lemon
.25 Grapefruit juice
.50 Heavy Cream
.25 Orgeat (almond based syrup)
1 Egg white

Combine the ingredients in a shaker without ice. Dry shake for 15 seconds to emulsify the mixture. Add 1-3 pieces of ice and shake again until the ice melts. (This may take a few minutes but trust me, it’s worth it.) Pour into a chilled collins glass and let it stand in a freezer for 2-4 minutes. Remove from freezer and slowly top your booze filled glass with soda water to allow the drink to rise slightly. Top with more cereal and party like it’s 1999.
